Cable Museum

It has been 110 years since the first underground power cable, 2.7km rubber-insulated lead-covered lighting cable, was imported and put into operation in Shanghai (China) in March of 1897 (the 22nd year of Guangxu Emperor of the Qing Dynasty). The application of Chinese cables started in Shanghai. Since the 1990s, China’s wire and cable manufacturing industry has entered a period of rapid development. In 2000, the output value of the cable manufacturing industry was 4.8 times and the sales volume was 5.2 times that of 1990 . The increase in the output value of the wire and cable manufacturing industry in China has been synchronized with the GDP growth, indicating that the wire and cable manufacturing industry is still a developing industry in China. In 2002, the output value of China’s wire and cable industry accounted for about 1.5% of the national economic output value. The amount of copper reached 3.1 million tons, and replaced the United States as the world's largest copper consumer. In 2005, global copper demand will exceed production by 172,000 tons, while China's copper demand in the same year will increase by 8% over the previous year. It is expected that in the next decade, the wire and cable industry will grow at a rate slightly higher than the national economic output.

Nowadays, the criss-crossing cable network has spread all over our cities. In many cities the underground power cables transmit electric energy every second, sending cables to factories, enterprises, streets, and residences, filling modern cities with vigor, vitality and light. In recent years, the government has decided to accelerate the development of the central and western regions, especially the development of infrastructure construction, transportation, energy, communications, and the development of real estate, automobiles, home appliances and other industries. It has brought new opportunities to the wire and cable manufacturing industry.

(1977) China's second generation balloon type coaxial cable

(1977) China's second generation balloon type coaxial cable

The second generation of balloon type small coaxial communication cable in China in the 1970s: In the early 1960s, China began to develop small coaxial cables. Through continuous exploration and improvement, on June 14, 1964, the first generation of small coaxial cables was developed in China. It has a defense degree of up to 130db, surpassing the international level. In the 1970s, the improvement of small coaxial cable technology made a great leap forward. On May 22, 1977, the second generation of balloon type small coaxial communication cable was successfully developed, and the communication was established between Shanghai and Tokyo, and further strengthened the ability of long-distance signal transmission.

(1979) China's first all-plastic flat cable

(1979) China's first all-plastic flat cable

China's flat power cable in the 1970s: With the development of China's foreign relations, foreign trade has expanded rapidly, the volume of foreign trade has soared, the capacity of goods passing through coastal ports is insufficient, the situation of ships pressing port, loading and rolling is becoming more and more serious. Premier Zhou Enlai issued a call to "change the outlook of my country's ports in three years" in early 1973, which started the first climax of port construction. With the rapid development of my country's port in China, flat power cables emerge at the historic moment and are widely used in port machinery and equipment. On June 8, 1979, China’s first super-large, new-structure all-plastic power integrated flat cable, which was self-designed and trial-produced, was put into use in the first key port renovation project of the shelf-Xuzhou Wanzhai large-scale coal mechanization transfer station. This kind of comprehensive super-large flat cable with power transmission and signal control functions for port automatic loading and unloading mobile conveying machinery, marking China's cable industry has reached to a new peak.

(1980) Successful production of China's 350,000 kV cross-linked power cable

(1980) Successful production of China's 350,000 kV cross-linked power cable

Type 792 deep-water multi-core shielded cable and Type 723 compression cable: On January 20, 1980, Vice Premier Bo Yibo made important instructions on the development of the industry. He pointed out: "Continue to grasp the task and improve the production task, less empty talk, more research, more real things". On April 1, 1980, under the instruction of the Premier of the State Council, Type 792 deepwater multi-core shielded cable and Type 723 compression cable were successfully trial-produced, which filled the gap for national defense construction and won praise from the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council. In the middle of the same month, a three-core 350,000 kV cross-linked power cable was developed for the "Beijing Fragrant Hill Hotel" invested and built by the United States in Beijing, which was the first in China.
